Quick recap to the season finale
The series debuted in 2011 and ended in 2016 with an epic finale. In the beginning of the episode, Team Machine is trying to find Finch and avoid being captured by Samaritan operatives. Samaritan’s goons track Shaw to Root’s grave, but The Machine warns Shaw in time and helps her escape the scene. Meanwhile, Reese and Fusco return to the precinct and are arrested by their fellow cops, who found out Reese is “The Man in the Suit” after Samaritan tipped them off.
Instead of taking Fusco and Resse to prison, they take them to a dock where they planned on executing them. As the duo are forced to go down on their knees, they reminisce about their relationship and how far they’ve come along. However, The Machine hires snipers to take the cops out.
Shaw and Fusco stay behind in the subway lairs to protect The Machine from the Samaritan operatives. Just when they were about to leave, Jeff Blackwell shoots Shaw in the shoulder but eventually gets knocked out by Fusco.
Finch and Reese break into the Federal reserve with the help of a fit-bit. The former rushes to the roof to upload the virus. As he goes about his work, he realizes that he was on the wrong roof. But Reese gets on the phone and tells him otherwise. Reese’s decision to sacrifice himself for his friend is a great payoff for the show’s original and foundational relationship.
Would a reboot have them run for their money?
The audience loved watching all five seasons and initially did want a season 6 or a reboot of some sort. “Hear me out a person of interest reboot but it’s just root, shaw and bear working the numbers” tweeted @hopebidyne.

“Series finale of Person of Interest was satisfying. But it’s just one more show I wish they would reboot. I mean, they certainly left it open for that to happen. on several fronts” tweeted another fan.
However, the other part of the audience is satisfied with the way things ended and believe that a reboot would be a waste of time and effort. “Let a good show die. Resurrecting, re-booting, or continuing things for the sake of it ruins the entire thing 9.9 times out of 10” shared a reddit user.
Another reddit user shared their opinion saying, “Let’s just let it die along with Root and Reese. A masterpiece should stay that way without any further attempts on it but I get the wanting to see more of Person of Interest .”
The possibility of a spin-off
An opinion that “If it isn’t a reboot, then there has got to be a spin-off” has been common among most fans who hope for either a new season or a spin-off series. Back in 2016, showrunner Jonathan Nolan confirmed that series will be ending with its fifth instalment. However, the production, cast and crew are still open to a reboot and as expressed to Deadline, Nolan says he “would do it in a heartbeat”
Upon discussing the possibility of a spin-off, Nolan shared that there were not attempting to do a spin-off. “If we were ever going to do a spinoff it would have been with the Control end of things and the relevant side of things which would have been great fun to take a look at three seasons ago” he added.
Season 6 confirmation and release date
Unfortunately, there is no confirmation of a sixth season. But if there were to be a reboot, it would most likely be in 2021 or 2022.
